Journalists showed what they had found in the former Beregovo synagogue (PHOTOS)

The building of the former mikvah – the room where the Jews dived into "living water" for "purification" – is quite well preserved in the city.

In Soviet times, a public bathhouse was built there; now the building accommodates a grocery store, a pharmacy and an office of the Privatbank. The mikvah and the synagogue formed a single architectural complex, which could decorate the city even today. 
At the beginning of the twentieth century, more than 4,000 Jews lived in Beregovo, one third of the city’s population.       
Today, the city’s Jewish community consists of a couple dozen people. Religious services are performed in the so-called Small Synagogue, where there is a small museum on the history of the Bereg county Jewish community. In the backyard of the temple, there is a memorial plaque commemorating the victims of the Holocaust with the names of the victims. Tourists from different countries often visit this place. The restored building of the Great Synagogue in Beregovo would attract them as well. Source.
