Joint contact point “Záhony” was opened on the border with Hungary

Today, on the border with Hungary, the first in this section joint contact point "Záhony" was opened, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine informs.

The official ceremony was attended by the head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Viktor Nazarenko and the deputy police chief – the chief of law enforcement of Hungary Zsolt Halmosi, officials of the regions on both sides of the border, representatives of police and public authorities on both parties.

The joint contact point is another important step in the implementation of the agreements between the President of Ukraine and the presidents of the "Visegrad Four", Viktor Nazarenko said.

In turn, Zsolt Halmosi said at the meeting that "the new joint contact point facilitates and speeds up the work of the agencies, that fight crime, ensures the engagement and cooperation of law enforcement agencies of both countries around the clock."

The heads of the two border guard agencies signed a protocol on the establishment of a joint contact point on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, at the checkpoint "Chop (Tisa) – Záhony" on November 30, 2016, and today, its full operation commences.

Contact points are an important element of modern communication in border security. And most importantly, they help to immediately solve the problems of people who legally cross the border, border guards of the two countries believe.

As is known, the length of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border is about 140 km and it runs within Transcarpathian region. Border control is carried out at 7 checkpoints. Overall, in 2016, 8.47 million people and 2.42 million vehicles crossed the border through them, which is 19% and 21% more than that in the previous year.
