In Uzhgorod, the cases filed against the activists, who defend Narodna Square, were not considered on the merits. The judges decided to defer the consideration. Journalists were allowed at the meeting only after long reminders that it was illegal and demands to call the head of the court. Representatives of the court refrained from comments.
All three trials, which were to take place today in Uzhgorod City and District Court, were postponed for a period of two days to almost a month. The so-called "case of five" was shifted back to November 4th. According to community activists, they postpone trials to prevent activists to defend the square.
Oleksandr Volosyansky, a social activist, a lawyer, said: "I think that the government just wants to draw us into these trials, so that we would not have time to counteract their plans to destroy Narodna Sq. and to waste three million hryvnias, which, for example, could have been used to repair roads in Uzhgorod."
Young people came to support the activists in an original way . They did a performance to show their vision of what the government is doing now with the cases of Narodna Square – they believe that the government makes a circus show.
The next court trials will be held on October 11 and November 4.
