Transcarpathia is under constant threat of a major earthquake, because our mountain region is located in seismic activity zone.
Scientists say that once in 100-120 years powerful earthquakes occur in Ukraine. The next natural disaster may occur in the next few decades.
The inhabitants of Transcarpathia are in greatest danger. This region is located in seismic activity zone. According to archives, about once in a century, powerful shocks occur there. The last earthquake happened in 1908, the "POLITEKA" informs.
"Of course, there is a reason for concerns, because if we look at the map of the seismic response in Ukraine, it shows that there may be global earthquakes in Transcarpathia. And there have been. Local effects even reached 8 points", – the deputy director of the Institute of Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences Oleksandr Kendzyor said.
The greatest danger of earthquakes is that they can not be predicted. That’s why Oleksandr Kendzyor urged Ukrainians to prepare for future earthquakes right now. Then the cataclysm will not cause significant damage.
