The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine emphasizes that Ukrainians cannot cross the country’s border with an electronic passport in the Action mobile application. The documents in the Action can only be used within Ukraine.
This was reported by the SBGS press service in response to the media publications stating that allegedly from June 1 Ukrainian citizens are able to show an e-passport at the border and this is enough to cross the border.
Border guards emphasize that such information is untrue.
The SBGS drew attention to the following:
Indeed, on April 15, the government adopted the resolution about e-passports and the Action program. In Ukraine, the e-passport became a full-fledged equivalent of the usual passport.
Indeed, e-passports are digital equivalents of paper documents.
But none of the provisions of the government resolution stipulates that e-passport can be used to travel abroad.
Citizens of Ukraine may cross the state border of Ukraine only with a travel passport (or other document that is defined by law as suitable for processing at the border).
