Investors for the narrow gauge railway are found

The epopee with Borzhava narrow gauge railway has lasted for 12 years and in 2010 one of the sections even was dismantled. The State Property Fund without taking into the account public opinion decided to sell it. Currently a unique line  passing through three region districts – Irshava, Vynohradovo and Beregovo districts, operates only partially that is why the issue of its preservation is particularly acute.

In the regional state administration a meeting was held to discuss the railway preservation. The potential investor Oleg Uvarov and the head of the OP section ‘Uzhgorod rail transportation administration’ Vasiliy Nody took part in the meeting. Despite the fact that narrow gauge railway in the village of Borzhava is unprofitable, which accumulates more than 8 million of debt every year, the regional authorities are concerned about its recovery. The investors expressed the willingness to help this case.

Oleg Uvarov believes that the centenary way is the historical regional heritage: ‘It must function. And we are ready to finance the restoration of 17 kilometers of the road and to invest 5 million hryvnia’.

The most actual task now is to stop the narrow gauge dismantling and the preserve its operation.
