Interchurch land dispute in Uzhhorod has not been resolved

The considration of the land issue related to church affairs at Uzhgorod City Council session gave no result.

Once again, the draft decision on allocation of land for the construction a church near the so-called "railway" hospital was put to a vote. It is a rather long-lasting dispute. The fact is that this land was allocated for the construction of the Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate. However, due to certain inconsistencies in church circles, for some reason the Church of the Moscow Patriarchate started construction there.

The priest of Kyiv Patriarchate Church Archpriest Oleksiy Umantsiv speaking at the session, said that the other church occupied part of the plot and now demands to divide 50/50. And that draft decision was proposed to be considered by the deputies, which he considered unacceptable

The churchman was supported by participants of the ATO – the Chairman of the Union of ATO Combatants "Brothers of Ukraine, Uzhgorod" Mykola Marchyshak said that any division was out of the question. The adoption of such a decision means that now anyone, who has started construction on someone else’s land, can demand half of the area. The decision must be made based on whom the land for the church was allocated to initially. In this context, they also reminded about the unauthorized construction of a church and several church buildings in the Bozdosh park.

Thus, the deputies sent the draft decision for review. It was suggested to establish a parliamentary commission, which will consider the case in detail and provide proposals at the session. The commission will be established by a vote at the end of the plenary session.
