Inauguration of the new academic year was held in the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute (PHOTOS)

On Tuesday, September 25, at the Reformed Church of Beregovo celebrations to mark the opening of the new school year in the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute named after Ferenc Rákóczi II was held. The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Hungary Zsolt Shemyyen, Transcarpathian regional council chairman Ivan Baloha, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary in Ukraine Michal Baer, ​​consuls of Consulate of Hungary in Ukraine, local priests of various denominations.

This year, 200 young Transcarpathians became the students of the institute. As the president of the Institute Ildika Oros said, currently over 1,000 students from around the region study in the institution. Future geographers, historians, philologists are trained here. During 16 years the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute of Ferenc Rákóczi II have become the center of cultural and educational life of the Hungarian community – says Ildika Oros. First students were accepted in 1994, and the school operated as a branch of the Nyiregyhaza Institute. In its present form the Institute have been operating since 1996, when the appropriate licenses were obtained. Currently, the Institute has six departments and three offices.  In 1999 the research centers were created. The main research programs of the Institute are aimed at exploring the use of the Hungarian language in the region, the history of the region, as well as the study of interethnic relations. 

Vice Prime Minister of Hungary for Humanitarian Affairs Zsolt Shemyyen during a meeting with the staff of the institution and the head of the regional council Ivan Baloha noted that graduates of this institution work successfully in Hungary, as the country recognizes their diplomas. Regarding cooperation between countries, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Hungary remains a lobbyist for Ukraine in the European Union, "but the fate of European integration depends on the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, and especially democratic standards in the country," – said Zsolt Shemyen.

At the ceremony students were welcomed by representatives of religious communities land management institution officials.

On the occasion of the new academic year, regional council chairman Ivan Baloga awarded the President of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute Ildiku Oros and the rector of the institution Josyp Sikura with commendations of the Regional Council – the press service of the Regional Council informed.
