Today, April 23, Uzhgorod traffic police officers together with representatives of the Department of Utilities of Uzhgorod City Council and journalists inspected the state of roads in the regional center. According to the head of Uzhgorod traffic police department Oleksiy Spivak, they were instructed by the state leadership and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to find out what the actual state of all roads and streets in Transcarpathian region is. After the inspection they will draw up an appropriate report which will be sent to local authorities so that they remedy the deficiencies detected during the inspection.
If more than 40% of the road surface is worn out, that area is subject to overhaul, if the damage is less, then the road stretch is subject to routine repair. About 2 million hryvnias were allocated for overhaul of the city roads, the same amount – for routine repair. Measurements of problem areas help to determine how much work can be done for available funds.
Currently, some of the works in the city have already been started, for example, they did patch repair on Gagarin, Shumna, Stantsiyna streets and on Svoboda Avenue near the sixteen-storey building.
