On Tuesday, May 13, in Uzhgorod, there was a round table "Ukraine – new realities, new opportunities for investment."The event was attended by representatives of business and academia of the region, and heads of enterprises in Transcarpathian region.
They discussed the prospects of economical development of Ukraine and Transcarpathia in particular, the practical steps aimed at creating innovative competitive economy of the country and its regions.
Victor Kryvenko, the head of national projects "Technopolis" and "Industrial parks", Advisor to the Minister of Finance of Ukraine made a presentation. He noted that the meeting takes place as part of preparations to the First Kyiv Economic Forum to be held in autumn in the capital (organized by the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Kyiv School of Economics, Ukrainian Association of Innovative Development and Discussion Club "Circle"). "We discussed with representatives of the Transcarpathian business real trends of economic policy in Ukraine, why it is necessary to combine two ways: on the one hand – general improvement in the overall business environment (deregulation, anti-corruption policy, etc.) on the other hand – creating specific points of growth, where we will not wait around for improvement of the investment climate, but will be able to invite investors in a few months. This applies to the restoration of a free economic zone in Transcarpathia", – Victor Kryvenko said.
One of the factors that impact investment negatively in Ukraine today is armed conflict. The other one depends on the position of the business, regional elites and adoption of favourable laws for investors.
According to the expert, the major problem faced by the business in Ukraine is the lack of freedom. The situation can not be changed within a short period of time throughout the country, but in individual locations the process takes place much faster.
In Transcarpathia, there is almost ready industrial park "Solomonovo" and, according to Victor Kryvenko, it is one of the two best in Ukraine. It only has to be officially formalized.
"It’s time to create the economy of the country that befits the 21st century – Volodymyr Panov, co-organizer of the meeting and a member of the Supervisory Board of the "Eurocar" CJSC commented on the results of the roundtable – All entrepreneurs must understand that if we do not create a normal market economy, the country has no future. No one will create this market except for us, business people. The Industrial Park is one little element, a tool which has been tested, implemented and successfully operating in developed countries, and I am convinced that it has the future in Ukraine." He said that the industrial park "Solomonovo" is on the stage of inclusion to the Register of industrial parks that will give a new impetus to attraction of international brands and investment flows to the region. "In Transcarpathia, in particular, there is a great opportunity to create a powerful new Ukrainian car industry, which the whole country will be proud of," – the expert said.
