The public garden of Maria Theresa on Kapitulna street, opposite the Greek Catholic Cathedral is an architectural monument, a spiritual recreation area. Order and security there for almost a year has been ensured by officers of the State Protection Service by means of video surveillance.
– This is a social project. The cameras in the park are connected to the central surveillance control station – a technical service senior inspector of the State Protection Service Office at the MIA Office in Transcarpathia Serhiy Kukhta said. – Officers monitor the territory continuously. And, if they capture any offenses, they send a detention group. The cameras also allow to see the entrance to the Cathedral.
– Since the arrangement of the public garden and installation of video surveillance system, there have been several cases when detention groups had to go there – Serhiy Kukhta adds.
The offenses were prevented because it is possible to monitor order. Uzhgorod residents are convinced that CCTV system would significantly reduce the crime rate.
– In Europe, video surveillance is a normal thing, and I would like it to be adopted in Ukraine too. If it was possible to install video surveillance cameras on all streets, many crimes could have been prevented. Although, if I am not mistaken, a year ago, there used to be such surveillance system in Uzhgorod, – the resident of Uzhgorod Mr. Vasyl noted.
