In Uzhgorod, scammers tried to cheat a woman out of her money with a story of a car accident committed by her son

Hanna S. from Uzhgorod called us and told the following story.

Yesterday, she received a call from a man who introduced himself as a police officer and said that her son had been arrested for running over a person.

 The distressed woman was asked to pay two thousand dollars to settle the case.

The woman asked where her son was and that she wanted to see him. They refused and told her to get the money and that they would call her back. The woman then dialed her son’s number… and heard his calm voice.

When the situation became clear, Hanna called 102, so that law enforcement officers detain the fraudsters. She called from landline and mobile phones, but at 15:00 on Friday, March 22, nobody picked up.

The police lost the opportunity to catch the criminals in hot pursuit, so we can expect to hear more similar stories.
