In Uzhgorod, rescuers cleaned two apartments from spilled mercury

On February 29, two cases of mercury thermometer breakage occured in Uzhgorod. Both cases occured in residential appartment blocks.

The first report was received by the rescue service of Transcarpathia at 15:30. In one of the rooms of an apartment on Klympush street, a mercury thermometer had broken, causing the spillage of 2 grams of metal.

A similar incident occurred in the evening of the same day, at 18:10, on Dobriansky street. Specialists of radiation and chemical protection group of the special purpose rescue squad arrived at both scenes, collected the mercury and processed the floor with aqueous solution of ferric chloride. The owners of the apartments were advised to ventilate the rooms.
