Yesterday, worried residents of a multistory house on General Svoboda street in Uzhgorod called to the rescue service. They reported that there was a thick smoke on the staircase.
Firefighters of the 14th state fire and rescue unit consisting of 15 rescuers and 4 units of equipment were immediately sent at the scene.
Upon arrival, it turned out that the fire had started on the staircase between the first and second floors. At the scene, the rescuers found the body of a woman without signs of life and an injured man. The latter was immediately taken to the intensive care unit of the Regional Clinical Hospital. The victim was diagnosed with 2nd and 3rd degree burns of 50 percent of the body.
Due to thick smoke, rescuers took outside 15 residents of the house.
According to the victim, who turned out to be a local homeless, he and his friend were drinking alcohol and smoking on the staircase of the house. Apperently, due to carelessness, the outerwear on the woman caught fire, which led to such fatal consequences.
