The amount of damage caused to the telephone company is being established, the Communications department of the Transcarpathian regional police informs.
Investigators of the Uzhgorod District Police Department are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the theft of a telephone cable which belongs to a private joint-stock company. An 18-year-old resident of the village of Kiblyary was detained by the police for committing this crime.
It was established that for several months the young man had been cutting the telephone cable off the poles. As a result of his illegal actions, residents of several settlements of Uzhgorod district were left without means of communication.
Later, the guy would extract copper wire from the stolen cable and sell it for scrap metal.
The thief was detained by officers of the patrol police response sector immediately after the crime. The police found the stolen telephone cable in the car he was driving in.
Currently, the defendant’s involvement in 12 cases of cable theft has been established.
Criminal proceedings are being investigated under Part 2 of Art. 185 of the Criminal code of Ukraine. The amount of material damage to the telephone company is still being determined.
Police continue to check the man for involvement in similar crimes in the area. The charges and pre-trial restraint against him are being decided.
