Uzhgorod district police detained two men who were digging up and dismantling underground cable lines. The policemen caught the thieves at the scene of the crime. The investigation continues
On the stretch of about 2 km along the road between the villages of Hlyboke and Vovkove in Uzhgorod district, unknown men dug up and dismantled the cable of a telecommunication company, causing the applicant significant damage. A criminal proceeding was opened over the incident.
In the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers identified the persons involved in this criminal offense. They were two men, residents of Uzhgorod and the district center aged 32 and 58. The policemen arrested them at the crime scene, where, at the time of detention, the men had dismantled about 30 meters of cable.
The investigation found out that detainees were involved in a number of other thefts of cables. The final amount of damages will be established during the investigation, the preliminary estimation at about 100 thousand hryvnias.
Further pre-trial investigation into the crime is being conducted by the police of Uzhgorod district, and a criminal proceeding was opened pursuant to Part 2 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The men are to be notified of being suspected of having committed this criminal offense.
