Today, Saturday December 22, Transcarpathian regional organization "Plast" held in Uzhgorod a culinary master class on making Christmas cookies for "birdies" – as children under 10 years in the "Plast" are referred to.
Kids together with adults cut cookies from dough squares, then, after baking, decorated them. Besides, children listened to Christmas stories, learnt carols, sang and danced. All participants received small candles with the holy fire of Bethlehem traditionally brought to Ukraine by "Plast".
According to senior Plast member Lyudmila Livak, who also organized the workshop, it was primarily to convey the Bethlehem fire to young Uzhgorod residents and to explain them that Christmas is not only gifts, Christmas tree and candy, but also the holiday of charity and helping other people. One of the legends, that kids listened to on the master class, was about a Christmas tree decorated with cookies. It was baked by baker’s little helpers, so that those who were not able to celebrate the holiday could just take cookies from the Christmas tree and thus also feel the spirit of Christmas.
The holiday was made possible thanks to the goodwill of the bakery "Palachinta" in the Mustard Seed, which has provided premises and materials for the master class.
