On Tuesday, March 13, at 17:00, in the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library, well-known Ukrainian writer, translator Andriy Lyubka will present the novel by Svetislav Basara "Fama about Cyclists".
"Fama about Cyclists" is a masterpiece of Serbian postmodern prose, a witty intellectual detective, a rare book that is beloved by critics and readers alike.
"An erudite, a person of encyclopedic knowledge, a fanatical writer (every year, a new book!). Svetislav Basara offers the reader an interesting detective story, his own skilfully constructed vision of History, but really captivates with witty shenanigans. Imagine Jesus, who comes to Jerusalem by bicycle. Or the Holy Ghost, who looks at the sinful world from above, but sees only moving crosses. Sherlock Holmes, who fails the case of two-wheelers, or Sigmund Freud, who meets members of the Order of Cyclists during his medical practice. Basara’s imagination does not have boundaries, but it is always camouflaged as a careful study – the author uses many quotations, historical facts, the titles of treatises, details from biographies of real persons, apocryphal theories, and ironic terminology. You can compare this technique with the now popular Dan Brown’s work, notice in it the roots of fake news, history falsified for the propaganda, in short, the novel, this and all the author’s works perfectly fit into our hybrid age", – the annotation to the book reads.
The admission is free.
