Prosecutors of Transcarpathian region have proven in court the guilt of two Mukachevo residents in the commission of criminal offenses under Clauses 6, 12 of Part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (murder committed for mercenary motives by prior conspiracy), Part 4 of Art. 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery) and Part 3 of Art. 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal appropriation of a vehicle). Therefore, by the verdict of the Court of Appeal in Transcarpathian region, they were sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the senior prosecutor of the department for procedural control during pre-trial investigation by internal affairs authorities and support of state prosecution Illya Ilchuk, the pre-trial investigation revealed that those persons had intentionally and brutally murdered a woman to take possession of her car and gold jewelry. Then, to make cash on that, they put up the stolen jewels in a pawnshop, and sold the vehicle for scrap.
In November last year, Mukachevo district court sentenced the offenders to 15 years in prison. However, prosecutors did not agree with the sentence of the court, and filed an appeal.
"Thus, the Court of Appeal in Transcarpathian region, taking into account all the circumstances of the case, supported the position of the regional prosecutor’s office and sentenced the offenders to life imprisonment," – Ilya Ilchuk concluded.
