Today, April 25, in Uzhgorod, on Druzhba Narodiv Square, there was an ecumenical memorial service, decicated to the 28th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, and laying of wreaths to the monument to Transcarpathian liquidators.
Regional and city officials, deputies of different levels, law enforcement officials, representatives of civil society organizations, creative unions, clergy and others participated in the event.
Among them, there were the regional council chairman Ivan Baloha, the First Deputy Governor Andriy Serbaylo, the Acting Mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Shchadey.
The event began with a prayer for the victims of Chernobyl, which was served by priests of various denominations. Then, they laid wreaths to the monument.
Gray-haired liquidators were standing with flowers in their hands – common pain has no past tense. They want such tragedies to never happen again.
