In Transcarpathia, the administrator of a Hungarian-language group in Facebook was convicted for separatism

A native of Vynogradiv district not only called for the separation of Transcarpathia from Ukraine, but also actively commented on this topic to Russian TV channels, the IA ZIK reports.

Thus, on August 15, 2017, Uzhgorod City and District Court, under the chairmanship of judge V. Danko, resolved: "Being a citizen of sovereign independent state of Ukraine, in the spring of 2014, being aware that, according to Art. 73 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the issue of changing the boundaries of the territory or the state border of Ukraine shall be decided solely by conducting an all-Ukrainian referendum, being aware of the socially dangerous nature of his actions, while being in Hungary, in the city of Budapest, being an active member of the administration of the Hungarian-language thematic group "Karpatalja nem Ukrajna" (translation into Ukrainian: "Transcarpathia is not Ukraine") of the social network "Facebook", he was distributing in it the materials containing public calls to an unidentified circle of persons (mainly ethnic Hungarians living on the territory of Ukraine) to change the boundaries of the territory and the state border of Ukraine, that is, spreading the idea of ​​separatism, namely the separation of Transcarpathia from Ukraine and its transfer under the jurisdiction of Hungary, thereby committed intentional actions aimed at changing the boundaries of the territory or the state border of Ukraine in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine".

During the court hearing, the accused confessed his guilt in full, repented, and asked the court to approve the agreement on recognition of guilt concluded between him and the prosecutor.

"Under Part 1 of Article 70 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, to impose a final sentence in the form of 5 years imprisonment with release from serving the sentence in accordance with Art. 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with a probational period of 3 years without confiscation of property. Based on para. 2 of Part 1 of Art.76 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, to impose obligations: to notify the authorized probation body about the change of the place of residence, work or studying", – the verdict published on August 15, 2017 reads. That is, the offender was sentenced to three years of probation.

The defendant must also reimburse the state the costs of expert services in this criminal proceeding amounting to 7,168 UAH.
