Thus, yesterday, thanks to the joint actions of border guards of the Mukachevo detachment and Romanian counterparts, they found six packages of cigarettes and detained a man in a wetsuit near the Tisa River, which forms the Ukrainian-Romanian border. The detainee was a 23-year-old resident of Rakhiv.

During further search operations, the border guards’ response team stopped a Volkswagen Golf with foreign license plates. According to the detained 23-year-old Ukrainian in a wetsuit, the driver of that car was supposed to pick him up after illegally transporting cigarettes to Romania.

The driver of the car refused to give border guards the documents for inspection. At that moment, another man approached the scene at high speed in a Volkswagen Passat, also with foreign license plates. The driver of the "Golf" quickly jumped into the "Passat", which approached. After attempting to hit the border guards, the men left the Volkswagen Golf on the road and drove towards the village of Velyky Bychkiv in the Volkswagen Passat.

In order to save their lives and health, border guards fired several warning shots in the air and at the wheels of the fugitives’ car.

After that, the border guards continued to chase the offenders by car, but they were blocked by a Toyota Land Cruiser. The border guards had to stop. In turn, the driver of the SUV got out and started hitting the border guards’ car, broke the windshield and damaged the hood, began to threaten the border guards with physical violence. As it turned out, that man was the father of one of the young men involved in tobacco smuggling. He decided to stop the border guards to give his son time to escape. Border guards called the National Police officers and detained the man. Subsequently, the police detained his son.
