In Transcarpathia, rescuers are preparing for severe weather conditions

In the near future, deterioration of meteorological situation is expected in the region. Thus, according to weather forecasts of the regional center of hydrometeorology, in the afternoon of December 1, at night and in the morning of December 2, heavy sleet and snow is expected in Transcarpathian region, in the mountains – very heavy snow. On December 1-2, there will be blizzards, snow drifts, ice covering on the roads, increasing northwest wind of 15-20 m / s, in the highlands – up to 23-28 m / s.

To coordinate activities and in view of the expected deteriorating weather conditions, the meeting of the operational headquarters of the regional commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergencies under the chairmanship of the head of the Civil Protection Department of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Victor Buryshyn took place at the regional office of the State Emergencies Service.

Currently, units of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region organized continuous monitoring of weather conditions in the region, ensured the readiness of the duty units, fire, engineering and other rescue vehicles to emergency response.   

Currently, vehicular traffic on all mountain passes is free, road surface is slightly covered with snow, sometimes wet. 

The State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office appeals to drivers with a request to refrain, where possible, from traveling, especially with children, during severe weather conditions. When driving through the passes, be sure to equip the wheels of the car with anti-sliding chains. During heavy snowfall, please take your vehicles out of the streets to make way for rescue vehicles, do not block roadways and driveways to buildings;
