The tragedy occurred in the evening of August 30. At 19:06, the operational and rescue service received a report that near the village of Kryva in Khust district, two minors born in 2001 and 2009 had drowned in the Tisa river.
The diving and rescue group of the city of Khust was sent to search for the bodies. At 20:15, the rescuers found the bodies of the dead children at five meter depth in the river and lifted them to the shore.
The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated by law enforcement agencies.
According to preliminary data, that evening, three young children went to the river to swim in the Tisa. At some point, they began to drown. One of the children’s sister and a young boy of 16, who accidentally witnessed the event, were near the scene. Seeing that his brother was drowning, the sister rushed to help him, and the boy began saving the other two children.
Two children were rescued, but the sister could not pull out her eight-year-old brother (the depth of the river in that place ranges from 4 to 5 meters), and they both drowned…
Rescuers once again appeal to citizens, especially parents – do not swim in unknown places! Do not let your children swim on their own! Be careful and follow the basic rules of conduct on the water!
