In Transcarpathia, customs officers stopped the smuggling of almost 6,000 medical devices

Import of new medical devices totaling almost 6,000 pieces into Ukraine under the guise of second-hand goods was prevented at the customs post "Luzhanka" of the Transcarpathian customs of the State Customs Service.

Returning from Italy in a car Renault Master, the driver chose the "red corridor" during the customs control, because he was moving the cargo, which is subject to mandatory declaration.

According to the proforma invoice, second-hand household goods worth 200 euros and weighing 235.5 kg were being imported from Italy to Ukraine, the consignee was a Ukrainian citizen from Khmelnytsky region.

But when customs officers conducted an in-depth inspection of the vehicle with unloading of all items in boxes, they found that the declared goods were only in 10 packages, while the other 30 contained new foreign medical products of various brands, a total of 5868 pieces.

In particular, heart rate monitors, catheters, syringes, bacterial filters, masks, inhaler ports, manual resuscitator, vacuum connectors, etc., which significantly exceed the value and weight of new goods allowed to be imported into Ukraine by law – up to 500 euros and weighing up to 50 kg.

Thus, the consignor committed acts aimed at moving goods across the customs border of Ukraine hiding them from customs control by submitting to the customs authority documents containing false information about the description, quantity and value.
These actions have signs of violation of customs rules provided for in Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.

Currently the confiscated undeclared new products require additional expert assessment to establish its value. The case will be sent to court.
