In Transcarpathia, border guards prevented three attempts of cigarette smuggling

Three attempts of cigarette smuggling were prevented by border guards of the Mukachevo detachment over the weekend. Late Saturday night, a 44-year-old citizen of Ukraine tried to carry cigarettes across the border. Planning a trip abroad, the man hid cigarettes in an air filter and cavities housed in the sound insulation of the luggage compartment of his car Audi. During the customs inspection, 78 packs of cigarettes were found in those caches. Both the cigarettes and the car were seized. The seized items were estimated at over UAH 80 thousand.

Another attempt of cigarette smuggling was stopped last night by border guards together with customs officers at the checkpoint "Dyakove". Law enforcement officers found hidden tobacco products in a car Volkswagen. The car was driven by a 40-year-old Romanian citizen who had hidden cigarettes in rear and spare wheels of the car. During the in-depth inspection, 350 packs of cigarettes were extracted from the caches. In addition to the cigarettes, the foreigner also lost his car.

And the border guards of the department "Luzhanka" last night detained near the border a Ukrainian citizen with a thermal imager in his bag. During the filtration measures, the man confessed that he was looking for a spot to smuggle tobacco products. A report of an administrative offense was drawn up against the man. He will be tried in court.
