Yesterday, border guards of the Chop detachment together with the customs officers prevented an attempt of illegal import of goods subject to state export control.
During the inspection of a minibus Mercedes heading to Ukraine via the checkpoint "Tisa", border guards suspected possible transportation of items hidden from border control. The vehicle was sent for an in-depth inspection, during which an unusual part was found in the cargo compartment. When asked by the police, the driver, a 32-year-old Transcarpathian, replied that he was carrying a spare part to electric motor. However, the appearance of the part alerted the border guards, so they reported about it to the officers of the Security Service of Ukraine. Also, an aviation engineer was invited as an expert.
Based on the results of the inspection and examination of the documents, the expert concluded that it was the wheel hub of SU-27 military aircraft.
The found item and the van Mercedes it was transported in were seized by the Security Service of Ukraine for investigation. The driver is suspected of a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 333 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Violation of the procedure for international transportation of goods subject to state export control".
