The judgment of Volovets district court against a 32-year-old resident of Svalyava, accused under Part 2 of Art.332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has entered into force.
In July 2013, the offender transported in his own van six illegal immigrants to the village of Bukovets in Volovets district and handed them over to other persoms for smuggling to the neighboring state.
August 13, during the transportation of another group, the minibus with seven illegal migrants and the local resident was detained by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region. The investigation established that in this way, the Transcarpathian contributed to smuggling of 23 illegal immigrants during July and August 2013.
Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region completed and referred to the court the criminal proceedings on involvement in the organization of illegal immigrants transportation across the state border of Ukraine.
Volovets District Court found the local resident guilty and sentenced him to a five years’ imprisonment with a probation period of 3 years with confiscation of means and items used for committing the crime – the van – in favour of the state.
