In Transcarpathia, a border guard was detained for demanding almost 11,000 hryvnias in bribes

The inspector of the Border Guard Service demanded from a local resident almost 11,000 hryvnias in illegal benefits. In return for this amount, he promised to assist in the unimpeded crossing of the border through the checkpoint and not to make obstacles for cars with cargo.

On the morning of October 16, the border guard was detained while receiving a part of the illegal benefit – 5,300 hryvnias. The border guard inspector was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He is suspected of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of illegal benefit by an official) of the Criminal code of Ukraine.

According to the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine, for extortion and bribe taking, he could face five to ten years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
