Today, February 27, on Nezalezhnist embankment, there was a fire inside a unique historic building – the former Jewish mikvah (ritual bath).
This interesting architectural object with a tragic history has been abandoned for the past few years. At the beginning of the century, the canteen of the school №1 (later – Linguistic Gymnasium) was located there.
Then, through the backstage machinations, the building was privatized, but the new owner is not hurrying to use it in any way – all equipment of the former canteen was stolen and sold for scrap, and the room itself is occupied by homeless people. It seems that the status of historical architectural monument is the only obstacle to the emergence of another glass retail and office center at the site of the ritual bath.
Today, around 15.00, a thick smoke and stench started coming out of the broken windows of the building. Fire fighters arrived at the scene and promptly eliminated the fire.
According to the rescuers, it was not a big fire, just a trash, brought to the former mikvah by homeless people.
Below is a small photo report from the scene.
In the building and around it, you can see a lot of typical bottles. Hawthorn tincture, as we can see, is the favorite poison of our antisocial people too.
