On the border of Lviv and Transcarpathian regions, on the stretch Beskid-Skotarske, the construction of a new double track railway Beskid tunnel is continuing.
Acconrding to the Karpatskij Objektiv, the builders have made one kilometer deep. This is more than half the length of the tunnel that will connect Transcarpathia with Lviv region.
The works for the construction of a new Beskid tunnel began in October 2013 and are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2017. It should completely replace the current single-track tunnel that has exhausted its lifetime.
The length of the new tunnel will be 1.765 km, the width – 10.5 m, the height – 8.5 m. It is being built at a distance of 30 meters from the existing one. The engineering construction will be passing at the depth of 180 m from the surface of the Beskid range. The new tunnel will be equipped with modern working and emergency lighting fixtures, ventilation, video surveillance, control sensors to determine the level of harmful gases and constant monitoring of internal state, means of fire protection and corrosion protection system.
