Yesterday in the evening, Rakhiv police received a report about an attack on a store. The call was made by a young woman, who works in her father’ shop in the village of Serednye Vodyane.
The rapid response team and the investigative team arrived at the scene. Law enforcers established the circumstances of the crime and arrested the attacker.
As it turned out, about 17.00, a young man entered the shop and started demanding from the 50-year-old shop owner the money in the amount of 200 dollars. Also, the extortionist was threatening him with a revolver!
The owner of the shop knew the extortionist very well, he was his fellow villager. This 35-year-old man lives near the store. He has no criminal record. The offender was in a state of intoxication.
The entrepreneur did not give the extortionist any money, instead his daughter called the police.
The racketeer was arrested right in the store. The weapon – 7.62 mm revolver and 7 bullets to it – were seized and sent for examination. The investigators will find out where the attacker got the gun.
According to the acting chief of the investigation department of Transcarpathian Police Volodymyr Maha, the police initiated two criminal proceedings over this incident – under Art. 189, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion) and Art.263, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (illegal handling of weapons). The attacker was being notified of being suspected of committing criminal offenses, he was detained under Art. 208 of the CCP and taken into custody. The pre-trial investigation of the case continues.
