In neighboring Hungary, there may be flooding due to ice blocks from Transcarpathia (PHOTOS)

Although over the last 24 hours, the water level on the Tisa in Transcarpathian region has began to subside, in Hungary, they are preparing for a possible flooding of farmland, the Mukachevo.net informs.

Huge ice blocks floated from Transcarpathia, and their thawing caused the river water level near Vásárosnamény to rise by more than 70 cm in just one day.

Because the land is frozen, the water does not seep through fast enough, therefore flooding is expected in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg region. Although emergency pumps run 12 hours straight, it does not help.

Instead, farmers say that if rain continues in the coming days and the temperature will remain at plus 7-8 degrees Celsius, it will allow the water level to drop.

There should not be any problems for crops. But if a similar situation had occurred in January, it would have caused greater harm to crops because of freezing, – Hungarian farmers say.
