On May 20, the heart of the famous literary critic, novelist, journalist, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of UzhNU Yuriy Ivanovich Baleha stopped beating.
The author of numerous scientific studies, journalistic articles, Yuriy Baleha was an ardent patriot of his native land, a tireless fighter for Ukrainian statehood, selfless worker in the cultural and spiritual field, one of the most active members of the Rukh in Transcarpathia, he was also known as the Chairman of the People’s Council of Transcarpathian Ukraine.
The Board of the Transcarpathian regional organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, the Philology Faculty, Department of Ukrainian Literature of Uzhgorod National University express deep condolences, remember and honor the name of the prominent colleague with the death of whom Ukrainian literature and science suffered a heavy loss.
The memory of Yuriy Baleha will remain in the hearts of the family, colleagues – scholars and writers.

The funeral of Yuriy Baleha took place on May 22, 2016. He is buried in the cemetery in the village of Domanyntsi. The funeral was attended by the family, friends, writers, scholars, representatives of the Culture Department of the RSA, the public, fans of his work.
