April 24, 2015 marks 100 years since the terrible tragedy of the twentieth century, the first mass crime against humanity – genocide of million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire.
On this occasion, commemorative events were held on the square near the Drama Theater in the regional center of Transcarpathia: a thematic exhibition and stories, and then they formed with lighted candles the words "We remember", "We demand", "1915" as part of the worldwide campaign "They were killing us in our country, but out country did not die in us."
Today, 06.15.2015, at 11:00, on Kyivska embankment near the Transcarpathian Regional Drama Theater, there will be the opening of the Khachkar memorial sign – Armenian monument made of precious volcanic stone (tuff) with a cross in a specially arranged place.
This stone monument was made and brought from Armenia.
In total, about 15,000 of such Armenian memorials have been made worldwide, and each of them is distinguished by its unique pattern, although all patterns are usually designed in the same style.
This monument is a sacred place that has a very significant historical, cultural and spiritual value for all Armenians, where they can come and honor the memory of their compatriots killed in the genocide.
The cultural event is held with the participation of the Armenian Embassy in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, the Transcarpathian Association of Armenian Culture "Ararat". Personal invitations have been sent to many representatives of the local authorities, embassies of neighboring countries Slovakia and Hungary, NGOs and activists; guests from other cities of Ukraine are also expected.
We also invite all the media and the public.
Vanush Gasparyan,
Representative of the Transcarpathian Association of Armenian Culture "Ararat"
