In Khust district, a fire killed an elderly woman

On March 19 at 15:29, the Rescue Service of Transcarpathia was reported about a fire on Gagarin street in the village of Boronyavo in Khust district. A one-story private house was burning, – the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region informs.

The rescuers were informed about the fire by residents of neighboring houses. When noticing smoke coming out of the neighbor’s house, they called "101" and tried to eliminate the fire on their own. Knowing that a single older woman lived in the house, the men tried to find her in the burning building. However, due to thick smoke and fire, that was quickly spreading over the wooden building, they were unable to do that.

Firefighters of the 10th State Fire and Rescue Unit of Khust, who arrived at the scene, examined the site. In one of the rooms, they found the body of the 93-year-old owner of the house with no signs of life. The fire was contained at 16:00 and completely eliminated at 18:10. 8 rescuers and 2 fire trucks were extinguishing the fire.

The fire destroyed the roof and ceiling of the building on an area of 18 sq. m and some of the property that was inside the house.

The cause of the fire and the amount of the loss is being established. However, most likely, the fire started in the house because of violations of fire safety rules during the installation and operation of stove heating.
