In Beregovo Gajdos remained on the mayor position, and Hungarian language became regional

At the session of Beregovo city council, which took place today, September 7, the appointment of deputy mayor was being decided.

At the suggestion of the mayor, the council members again approved representative of "United Center" Olga Bizilya as the first deputy mayor. Also, the deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Chaba Peyter was approved as first deputy mayor. This decision was voted by 21 deputies of the 34 present at the session.

Despite expectations, the issue of motion of non-confidence against the mayor, initiated by city council member Edward Pukanych and required by the appropriate judgment, was not considered. In general, the session, which was assumed as scandalous, passed quietly and peacefully.

Among other things, members voted for granting the Hungarian language status of regional in Beregovo, where 48 percent of the population are Hungarians (12,800). This decision was voted by 19 out of 34 deputies of the city council (another 2 were absent).

The project of this decision, in particular, provides for the writings on letterheads, seals, stamps, plates of Beregovo City Council, along with the state language, were also in regional Hungarian. When making signs, plaques and audio-visual advertising in the city, advertisers also have to consider this decision.

The command of the state language and regional Hungarian henceforth will be considered as a criterion when selecting personnel to state and local governments. Financial administration of the city council was ordered to provide funds for the implementation of this decision.

Information about such decision shall be notified to the public through the media.
