In Beregovo district, smugglers were carrying amber with guns

In Transcarpathia, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a group of armed smugglers.  

Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a group of residents of Beregovo district who had organized a channel for smuggling of amber to Hungary, and drugs – to Ukraine. 

Law enforcement officers found the criminals near the village of Didovo, which is located about ten kilometers from the border. Seven smugglers, including the organizer, were planning another operation on illegal smuggling of goods. 

During the arrest, smugglers were resisting and opened fire at the officers of the Security Service and border guards. During the incident, no one was hurt. 

The police seized from the offenders weapons, ammunition and thermal imager. 

Criminal proceeding under Art. 263 and Art. 343 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was opened. 

Urgent operational-investigative actions to identify and bring to justice all members of the group continue – the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine informed.
