In the course of the preventive operation "Weapons and explosives", law enforcement officers of Beregovo district, take measures for detection and seizure of unregistered firearms and ammunition.
An officer of Beregovo district police department licensing system Opanas Garagulya received the information that a resident of the village of Muzhiyevo in Beregovo district might be keeping illegal firearms. During the inspection, the information was confirmed.
The police stopped a 21-year-old man when he was heading on foot to the nearby village of Kidyosh. In the inner pocket of his jacket, the police officers found a homemade gun for firing 5.6 mm bullets and three cartridges of the corresponding caliber.
The guy explained that he had found those bullets accidentally, and then decided to remodel his air pistol to fire 5,6 mm bullets. In the future, he was going to hunt for pheasants with this gun.
Beregovo police department investigator launched the criminal proceeding over this fact under Part 1 of Art.263 (handling of firearms without statutory authority) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is punishable by imprisonment for 2 to 5 years.
