On Hrushevsky street, in the stairwell of an appartment block, two men attacked a pensioner. They took his money, documents and fled. Officers of criminal police quickly arrested the robbers
A 81-year-old pensioner from Uzhgorod appealed to the police. The applicant said that he had been attacked by two strangers. The victim lives in a high-rise on Hrushevsky street, at night he was coming home and in the stairwell he was attacked two strangers. One of the robbers grabbed the pensioner by the throat and began to choke. The other one took out of the victim’s jacket pocket the money in the amount of 100 hryvnia and documents: passport and disabled veteran’s card. Then, the attackers fled.
Officers of Uzhgorod Criminal Police quickly found out that the pensioner had been attacked by two men who live in the same neighbourhood. Both were previously convicted for similar crimes.
The police quickly found out the whereabouts of the suspects and arrested them. Investigators started criminal proceeding over this incident under Part 2 of Art.186 Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery, committed under prior agreement by a group of persons). The physical evidence – the victim’s passport – was found by the police in the gutter, where the robbers had thrown it away.
Currently, the choice of pretrial restraint against the suspects is being decided. During the investigation, their involvement in the commission of other crimes in the city will be checked.
