Hutsul sheep cheese is the first Ukrainian product registered as a geographical indication according to EU standards

Protection of geographical indications of goods has been introduced in Ukraine.

Only the products that are manufactured in those places will be allowed to bear geographical indications.

The geographical indication "Hutsul sheep cheese" is completing the registration process in Ukraine. As reported in an interview with the Zruchno.Travel by the Manager of the Project "Supporting the development of the geographical indications system in Ukraine" Saverio Savio, the traditional Carpathian shepherd cheese made according to special technology will become the first food of Ukraine to be registered as a geographical indication according to EU standards.

According to the project manager, the application for registration of the geographical indication was submitted by the project six months ago.

"On September 25, the six-month period of objections expired, in accordance with Ukrainian law. And soon we will be able to boast that the Hutsul sheep cheese has officially become the first Ukrainian geographical indication registered in accordance with the requirements of the European Union," – Saverio Savio said.
