Hutsul Republic initiated the return of Transcarpathia to Ukraine

Hutsul Assembly dedicated to the 97th anniversary of Hutsul Republic – a unique mini-state that emerged from the wreckage of the Austro-Hungarian Empire – took place in the village of Yasinya.

The ceremonies were attended by hundreds of local residents and visitors, including a niece of the Hutsul Republic President Maria Loferdyuk. Mrs. Maria shared her memories of S.Klochurak, saying that he remained a patriot of Ukraine to the last days, and shortly before his death in Prague asked to bring him a jug of native soil from Yasinya.

The then historical conditions left no chance for the Hutsul Republic, but its formation was essential.  The population of the Transcarpathian Hutsul land gained the experience of national liberation struggle, identified themselves as Ukrainian. These events twenty years later gave impetus to the creation of a new Ukrainian state in Transcarpathia – Carpathian Ukraine – and initiated the return of Transcarpathia to Ukraine.

After the official part, there were Christmas performances of children’s groups, the children received gifts from the regional administration, and the village received copies of the book by Stepan Klochurak "To freedom".
