Hungary will provide Transcarpathia with eight thousand measles vaccines as humanitarian aid

Hungary has responded to the critical shortage of vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella in Transcarpathia. Following an appeal from the Transcarpathian Regional Administration to the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhgorod, the government of this country decided to send to the region ​​eight thousand vaccines as humanitarian aid.

Hungary is not a producer of the vaccine, but purchases it from other countries.

– We are expecting to receive the humanitarian aid on Friday, January 26, – Hennadiy Moskal said. – The vaccine will immediately be sent to medical institutions in the region, it will be enough for about two months. In February last year, Hungary already gave us 4.5 tonnes of medical product for severely ill patients with the terminal stage of chronic renal failure, and in March – five thousand measles, mumps and rubella vaccines. By the way, we have not yet received the ten thousand vaccines promised by the Ministry of Health.

As previously reported, there is a critical shortage of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine in Transcarpathia. During 2017, the region received less than a third of the required amount of these drugs, and since mid-January this year, there have been no vaccines at all. Due to the lack of vaccinations, the number of patients with measles in most districts of Transcarpathia has increased rapidly, and in Tyachiv district, quarantine restrictions have been introduced due to the infection outbreak.
