The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary positively assessed the elections of the President of Ukraine.
This is stated in the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Hungary, the correspondent of the Ukrinform reports.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary welcomes and appreciates the presidential election in Ukraine held on May 25, 2014. Congratulations to citizens of Ukraine, who supported stable and united Ukraine on the presidential election", – the statement of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said.
According to the Foreign Ministry, during the election, there were no violations that would have cause to question its democratic character and legality. As noted, a high turnout and convincing support for Petro Poroshenko added strong legitimacy to the election.
At the same time, they express regret that, due to actions of the separatists, it was not possible to adequately organize presidential election in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This confirms that Ukraine faces hard challenges that require from Kyiv drastic responsible actions and resolution of disputes. "Historical responsibility for Petro Poroshenko is to stop separatist tendencies and preserve territorial integrity of the country, in which he can count on full support fron Hungary," – the statement said.
The Ministry once again stressed that Hungary would continue to support the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and stability of Ukraine, and hopes that the terms stipulated in the agreement on cooperation signed between Petro Poroshenko and the representative of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine – Cultural Union of Hungarians in Transcarpathia would be implemented as soon as possible.
