Hungarian intelligence agents have been active in Kyiv in connection with the Ukrainian-Russian conflict.
The was stated by the Minister of the country responsible for the civilian intelligence Janos Lazar, speaking in the Parliament of Hungary, website The Budapest Beacon reported.
While the speech took place at the end of June, its details became known only now.
As noted, Lazar reported on a large-scale reorganization of the Information Office – the agency for gathering intelligence information.
The representative of the Hungarian government paid special attention to changes in the security in the region.
In particular, he said, "Hungarian spies have been actively working in Kyiv, as well as spies of other neighbors in the region to ensure that political leaders can promote the interests of Hungary."
Lazar is convinced that the future of Hungarians living in Transcarpathian will be a serious problem in the coming decades, and that "the Information Office carries out activities to protect the citizens of Hungary in the Carpathian Basin."
As the official said, Hungary for the first time in 25 years is openly conducting this kind of activity "in complete opposition to the wishes of the Ukrainian government."
