Hungarian police continue to purge the Ukrainian-Hungarian border

Investigators of the Prosecutor General of Hungary yesterday questioned 14 customs officers working at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, namely the checkpoint "Luzhanka-Beregsurany", the Mukachevo.net informs. They are suspected of bribery.

This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Hungary Imre Keresztes.

– The customs officers are suspected of taking bribes for smuggling from Ukraine, – he said.

On Tuesday, the investigators raided 21 Hungarian checkpoints, as a result 14 customs officers and 6 civilians were detained and interrogated as suspects.

According to Imre Keresztes, there is an objective suspicion that the officers of the public financial institution contributed to the regular illegal transportation of excisable goods and illegal immigrants from Ukraine to Hungary.

If the fact of the crime and bribery is proved, they face two to eight years in prison.

Recall that in 2016, at the Zahony customs office, corrupt officers were detained ar the workplace for assistance in smuggling from Transcarpathia. 21 suspects – 18 customs officers and three civilians – were taken into custody.
