Hungarian community celebrated the anniversary of the liberation struggle

On Thursday, Consuls General of the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Bochkai and the Consulate General in Beregovo Endre Salipski organized a reception on the occasion of the National Day of Hungary – the 58th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and the liberation struggle of 1956.

October 23, 1956, in Budapest, there was 200,000 people strong rally against the regime of the pro-Soviet government. The protesters, demanding better living conditions, political and economic reforms, democratic freedoms, seized the building of the radio station, military factories. The uprising spread to many regions of Hungary.

On Thursday, leaders of the Hungarian national-cultural societies, members of the public laid flowers at the memorial plaque on the building in Uzhgorod remand prison in honor of the participants of the historical events of 1956, who were held in custody there.

Also, Hungarian diplomats organized a reception on the occasion of the anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and the liberation struggle of the Hungarian people in 1956 in Beregovo. It was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council Ivan Baloha, members of the regional council, heads of local government bodies.
