Hungarian can not become a regional language

Acting head of Transcarpathian Regional Council Volodymyr Zakurenyy said that the region authorities can not approve Hungarian as regional language.

This is stated in his response to the request by Deputy Hennady Moskal – informs Zakarpattya online.

The response states that "neither law on local government, nor the law on the principles of state language policy, nor any other applicable legal act envisages for Regional Council such power as granting a certain language status of regional one."

Zakurenyy is the representative of the Party of Regions, head of the party office in Transcarpathia.

As we know, in other regions, where Party of Regions has the majority, the Russian language has been recognized as regional.

Earlier Moskal reported that "Presidential Administration sent a tacit indication to regional councils with the request not to consider matters on the status of minority languages except Russian."
