Hungarian border guards caught a Ukrainian ex-policeman with a ton of smuggled amber

The man was detained on the Hungarian side of the checkpoint "Kosyno – Barabash". Transcarpathian customs officers and border guards had not noticed the contraband, the crime-ua reports.

According to several sources in the law enforcement agencies of Transcarpathia, the smuggling incident occurred on January 12, that is, last week, however, none of the press services of the border guard agencies reported about it.

Although the contraband, which was detained by Hungarian customs officers, is a record-breaking one: an ex-officer of the Beregovo Police Department was carrying in a minibus Mercedes about 850-900 kg of unprocessed amber that was hidden under the lining of the cabin. It was found out that the detainee at one time was heading the criminal police of the Beregovo district police department and was a resident of the border village of Kosyno.
