Hungarian authorities believe that the found dead boar with African swine fever migrated from Transcarpathia

On May 16, experts from the Hungarian Department of Veterinary and Food Safety found the African swine fever virus in a dead wild boar found during hunting near the border with Ukraine. The information was posted on the Hungary’s government website. This was reported by the Mukachevo.net.

Experts believe that the wild pig likely came to the EU territory from Transcarpathia during the spring migration of wild animals. The Hungarian authorities believe that it is necessary to take all measures to prevent the spread of the harmful infection throughout the country.

Currently, the territory subject to a quarantine is being determined. They also say that the African swine fever is not dangerous to humans! However, it can pose a great threat to domestic animals, which could cause a large economic loss for the industry.

Recently, about 1,000 piglets in Hungary were killed during inspections by the veterinary service, since it was impossible to determine whether they were sick or not.
